Fair Use Symposium
February 8, 2008
The Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts along
with the Journal for Law and the Arts will be hosting a day-long
Symposium on Fair Use. The Keynote Speaker will be Professor Paul
Goldstein, the Stella W. and Ira S. Lillick Professor of Law at Stanford
Law School. The panels will consist of 3 topics titled "What is
Transformative?", "Reconsidering the Four Factors" and "Beyond Fair
Use."

On September 19th, the Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts will
Celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Morton L. Janklow chair in
Intellectual Property Law. In honor of Janklow's work on behalf of
author's rights, the Center will mark the occasion with the launch of a
new website designed to educate artistic creators about their
copyrights. The site is being developed in conjunction with the Program
for Law & Technology.
Treasures and Taxes Panel

Taxes may be something most people try to avoid but issues involving the
Internal Revenue Service often figure prominently in the lives of
artists and those who collect art. On October 1, the Kernochan Center
will present “Treasures & Taxes: the Intersection of Art and the
Internal Revenue Code” which will look at some old laws and new changes
which impact the arts community. Panelists include renowned Art Law
attorney Ralph Lerner of Sidley Austin Brown & Wood LLP, Anita Defanis
Co-Director of Government Affairs at the Association of Art Museum
Directors, Sarah Geelan ’97, Associate Counsel of the Guggenheim
Foundation, and Daniel Hoffman, Consultant in Poetry of the Library of
Congress (1973-1974).
